Existing Settings

1) What is setting?

Setting is the place or type of surrounding where something is positioned or where an event takes place

2) What are the conventional settings we expect to see used in the music video?

We will focus on filming in woodland and forest like areas as it will fit with the characters natural habitat- character being a wolf. The band on the other hand will be filmed in more generic places such as studios and theatres however we might go against the traditional media conventions in that we might take the characters out of their natural environment to make the video more contemporary and experimental.

3) How much is genre an important factor in relation to setting?

The genre helps the audience to understand the general mood and atmosphere. Therefore it would link to the things they like doing, who they are and where they go. An example might be a the genre romance where you'd expect there to be many more private, secluded shots of the individuals alone, a coffee shop, a garden or a river for example would allow the producer to capture emotion and mood in the shot effectively.

4) How important is setting in the construction of mise-en-scene and creating an understanding for the viewer?

Setting is a very important, especially in the construction of mise-en-scene. It allows the viewer to understand the plot and the general gist of the video. Specific to our video, we hope to capture powerful emotion and therefore don't want to use any kind of setting which is too bright or busy. Hence why we will be shooting a lot of it in the dark, in the moonlight and the woods to reflect how the character is feeling.  It will also allow the flash of red to be much more significant and therefore play a larger role in the video
